Turning 65? Your Medicare Readiness Checklist
Turning 65 unlocks your Medicare eligibility. Use this checklist to know what to do — and when — in the months before your birthday.
Turning 65 is a milestone for many reasons, and one of them is Medicare eligibility. In the months before your birthday, it helps to have a plan.
Three months before 65: check whether you're automatically enrolled in Part A and/or Part B, and decide if you need Part B if you're still working. Review your current prescriptions so you can compare Part D or Advantage plans.
Two months before: compare Original Medicare + Supplement vs. Medicare Advantage using your doctors and drug list. Consider whether you want dental, vision, or hearing benefits.
Your birthday month and after: confirm your enrollment, carry your card, and schedule a consultation if anything is unclear. The earlier you start, the calmer your decisions will be.
